I lived in ATL between 19 part of that time I lived at 870 Peachtree street at the Hotel that was across from Bulldog's with the big water fountain in the front. LOL, I was afraid to come back in this post. That was from Detroit of Fosters and Los Angeles Papa Bears. Which was next to Margaret Mitchell was FOSTERS which was the old home of the new Loretta's. There was a Black gay club next to Bulldogs which is where the parking lot is now called In-Betweens. That was one of the locations of Traxx "the Mansion" then on Columbia in Decatur then back on 708 Spring street. S/N: Anyone knows if there's any history behind ATL Live (the club up somewhere on Buford Highway somewhere north of Clairmont Road) It closed it's old location and since has moved around at least once or twice to different locations, all being a significant downgrade and reduced experience to the former glory. The owner's death around the time of Nikki Minaj's performance there was a horrible tragedy and has basically led to the death of the club. OMG it was like being inside of Walmart). It, IMO, was the best predominately black gay club in the area (and if anyone has ever been there, you know it probably was the largest club period. I also like a previous poster mentioning Traxx. I'm not sure how the clients started out as or were up until the 90's, but I do know that by the 90's it had a large black following, and you could certainly say the trend has been for multiple decades for it to be a largely black based club. It's one of the oldest gay bars around and I think the oldest in the city proper! I believe you're right also about it being the only one on Peachtree Road in Midtown, and when I think about it, I don't know of any others off hand directly on Peachtree. The building was torn down in 2016 to make way for the continued expansion of Georgia Tech
Loretta's was the first gay club i ever went into and that place had a lot of history and meant a lot to a lot of people.they also had a lounge upstairs and around 2000 they expanded and had part of the space next door and added a piano in there which i used to play and people would sing and have was kool, they also had a water fountain upstairs to.the restrooms and the main dance floor was downstairs.they also built that stage in there as well.which wasn't there before. It basically killed Atlanta's night life. Atlanta also used to have bar closing hours at 4am until an incident involving NFL star Ray Lewis occurred in Buckhead outside the club district that used to be there, they have like 30 or 40 bars and clubs in that area and they closed the entire district down after pressure from the Buckhead business community and the city of Atlanta encourage a developer to purchase the property and turn into a boutique area like Beverly Hills. u would walk out the club and the sun would be up. That was the place to go on Sunday.Traxx on Saturday night and The Marquette afterwards because they didn't close. That place was legendary.u also had Water Works restaurant on Luckie Street which was black and gay with Pear Garden bar next door. Loretta was a female.she ran the club throughout the 80's and as the early 90's began, her brother took over for her until they finally sold the building, if i'm not mistaken.
